Uligamu City Hotel to open mid 2009 – MTDC

The City Hotel being constructed by Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) in the island of Uligamu of Ha atoll will be complete by mid next year, according to MTDC.

MTDC Manger Public Relations Arif Abdul Samad briefing Miadhu Daily said the construction of staff quarters is complete and that work on guest rooms will commence within the two weeks. Work on sourcing qualified technical staff is underway and that foreigners will not be provided any opportunity unless qualified Maldivian nationals are not available.

Arif revealed that when various projects of the hotel were tendered some 16 parties have shown interest. However he said Maldivian parties will be given priority. Arif also said so far work on the hotel has been conducted by Maldivians. Considering the working speed the hotel is expected to open mid 2009, according to Arif.

According to MTDC a 100 bed resort will be developed at Uligamu and that necessary marketing activities are already underway. MTDC also informs that some European companies have already expressed interest and that construction work is to be completed by the end of the year.
