Lease agreement for Kelaa tourist resort signed

Ministry of Tourism has signed a lease agreement with Ahmed Shafeeg of Ma Nivico for developing a 200 bed tourist resort in a part of Ha. Kelaa. The resort will include part of the lagoon of the island. Director General Yazeed Mohamed of the Tourism Ministry signed the lease agreement on behalf of the Ministry.

According to the lease agreement, the developer of the resort is required to submit development concept, environment impact assessment and work plan within 90 days of the signing of the lease agreement.The resort has to be developed within 36 months after the approval of the development concept, environment impact assessment and work plan and final drawings.

This island is the first inhabited island part of which is leased for developing a tourist resort. There is a condition in the agreement to sell 20 percent shares of the resort to the general public within 5 years of the opening of the resort. This is expected to bring much benefits to the people of Kelaa and HA Atoll.
