The Maldives climbed a spot higher to the fourth place in the list of the New Seven Wonders of Nature, after being stuck in fifth for months, the Maldives Tourism Promotion Board (MTPB) revealed.
The Maldives was third in January before falling to fifth position. MTPB Director, Mohamed ‘Mode’ Adam, said new efforts are being taken to promote the Maldives to the international community.
“We are campaigning at international travel and tourism fairs in order to increase support to the Maldives. We expect the Maldives to be listed at least at seventh,” he said.
The New Seven Wonders of Nature, elected by a Swiss group, will be announced on 11-11-11.
The campaign requires 90 percent of votes from across the globe while only 10 percent from the winning country is to be considered.
Voting for the Maldives can be done by dialing 00442033470901 and entering 7718 after the automated message. Callers are required to wait for the ‘Thank You for voting’ message.
