In order to establish its presence in the Indian market, the Maldives Tourism Promotion Board (MTPB) has decided to organise an offline destination specialist training programme for frontline staff of tour operators. The offline destination specialist training programme will be launched in collaboration with Kuoni Academy of Travel and it is likely to be launched by June this year. The first phase of the training programme will be conducted in Mumbai and New Delhi, and in the second phase it will be conducted in Bengaluru, Chennai and Pune.
According to Thoyyib Mohamed, Minister of State for Tourism, Arts and Culture – Department of Information, Maldives, “The main objective of organising this offline destination specialist training programme is to educate frontline staff of tour operators about Maldives tourism offerings, in order for them to sell the destination effectively in the Indian market.
Furthermore, the Board plans to attract high-end clients from India such as Bollywood personalities and business travellers. India being a key source market for Maldives, it will participate in road shows, travel and tourism fairs to promote the destination. Thoyyib Mohamed added, “Maldives is a vibrant destination and aim to unite the country’s unique natural, cultural and historical attributes to position Maldives as a must visit destination.”
Abdul Azeez Yoosuf, High Commissioner – High Commission of the Republic of Maldives- India said, “Through this training programme we will educate the staff about the destinations, tourism products and services, investment opportunities. The destination has several island resorts, offers dive safaris, cruising and various activities such as diving, snorkeling, water sports, spas, island hopping, surfing etc.”
