The Maldives has been awarded the Favourite Worldwide Beach Destination by Sunday Times Travel Magazine readers.
After counting this year's votes, the UK's leading travel magazine awarded the honour to the Maldives on Monday while listing Barbados on the second and Mozambique on the third.
At a special ceremony held in the St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel in King's Cross, London, Minister-Counsellor Ahmed Shiaan received the award on behalf of Maldives and expressed his gratitude to the magazine's readers.
He added that such acclaim was particularly rewarding as it comes from such a knowledgeable and well-travelled group. The full results of the reader's awards were published yesterday in the January edition of the magazine.
